The Divine Comedy is an Irish chamber pop band formed in 1989 by singer-songwriter Neil Hannon. Their eclectic sound combines a variety of genres including folk, pop, classical, and even electronica. They are best known for their witty and often deeply literate lyrics, many based on the literature of authors like James Joyce, W. B. Yeats, and Philip Larkin. With over 20 albums released to date, they have gained a reputation as one of the most innovative and creative pop groups of their era.
