Local Natives is an American indie rock band formed in 2005 in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. Known for their intricate vocal harmonies and driving rhythms, the group has established itself as a distinctive figure in the indie scene.

Local Natives formed in 2005 in Silver Lake, a district of Los Angeles, initially under the name Cavil at Rest. The band, consisting of Taylor Rice (vocals, guitar), Kelcey Ayer (vocals, keyboards, percussion), Ryan Hahn (vocals, guitar), and Matt Frazier (drums), quickly developed a sound characterized by intertwined melodies, polyphonic vocal harmonies, and a dynamic rhythmic approach. Their debut album, Gorilla Manor, released in 2009, received critical acclaim for its contagious energy and organic production, propelling them onto the international stage.

Following the success of Gorilla Manor, Local Natives solidified their reputation with Hummingbird in 2013, a more introspective and darker album produced by Aaron Dessner of The National. This second opus explored themes of loss and resilience, while maintaining the band's distinctive sonic identity. Their subsequent albums, Sunlit Youth (2016), Violet Street (2019), and Sundogs (2023), showcase a constant evolution, integrating electronic elements and exploring new sonic textures, without ever abandoning their vocal and melodic signature.

Local Natives is lauded for its intense and emotional live performances, where the synergy between members and the richness of their vocal arrangements truly come to life. Their music is often described as a fusion of indie rock, folk, and pop, with influences ranging from Fleet Foxes to Arcade Fire, yet always with a unique touch that is distinctly their own. The band continues to tour globally and release new projects, maintaining a loyal fanbase and constantly expanding its audience.
